How the Digital Accessibility Program Was Established

A record of the work that built CMC’s digital accessibility program — and where responsibility for it sits today.

Background

CMC convened a Digital Accessibility Committee in 2025 to establish the College’s digital accessibility program. The committee brought together ITS, the Office of General Counsel, Civil Rights, Strategic Communications, Human Resources, and Academic Affairs to draft policy, scope the institutional remediation workload, stand up scanning and training, and define how accessibility would be handled going forward.

That formation work is complete. The Digital Accessibility Policy was approved by the President’s Executive Council on March 23, 2026, and ongoing responsibility now sits with the standing offices described below rather than with a convening committee.

Who Is Responsible Now

The Digital Accessibility Policy assigns ongoing responsibility to the offices below. Making digital content accessible is a shared campus responsibility, and content creators have primary responsibility for the content they publish.

Student Accommodations

Accessibility Services, within CMC’s Office of Civil Rights, is the primary point of contact for determining reasonable and appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities.

Employee Accommodations

The Office of Human Resources works with faculty and staff with disabilities to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations.

Website Accessibility

The Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing manages the accessibility of the College’s primary websites (cmc.edu).

Campus-Wide Coordination

Overall coordination for digital content accessibility is handled by the Director of Administration and Finance for IT Services, who also reviews and approves third-party contracts for accessibility before signature.
