Step-by-Step Guide

Install Electronic Blue Book (EBB)

CMC's secure digital exam platform — install before exam day so you're ready when it counts.

Academic integrity notice. Do not attempt to circumvent, bypass, or tamper with EBB's secure environment. Doing so is a violation of the CMC Academic Honor Code and may result in academic disciplinary action. EBB is monitored for tampering attempts.

System Requirements

macOS

  • macOS 12.0 (Monterey) or later
  • At least 2 GB of free disk space
  • Stable internet connection
  • Admin password for installation

Windows

  • Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit only)
  • At least 2 GB of free disk space
  • Stable internet connection
  • Administrator account for install

Before You Begin

  • Your professor or Mike Malsed has sent you an email with detailed instructions and a link to a box.com folder containing the EBB installer — follow those instructions closely
  • Your computer meets the system requirements above
  • At least 2 GB of free disk space
  • Install before exam day — do not wait until the last minute
  • Your CMC username (everything before the @ sign, e.g. jdoe26)
1

Download the EBB Installer

Your professor or Mike Malsed has sent an email with detailed instructions and a link to a box.com folder. Open that email and follow the instructions closely — the installer file is in that folder. Download the file: it will be a .dmg on macOS or a .exe on Windows. Save it somewhere easy to find, like your Desktop or Downloads folder.

2

Run the Installer

Installation steps differ slightly by operating system:

macOS: Double-click the .dmg file to mount it. Drag the EBB app to your Applications folder. Enter your admin password when prompted.
Windows: Right-click the .exe file and select "Run as administrator". If Windows SmartScreen appears, click "More info" then "Run anyway." Follow the installation prompts to complete the setup.
3

Launch EBB and Complete Setup

Mac users — before opening EBB: Minimize or close all open windows and applications. macOS puts popup windows behind other windows, and you must be able to see the security popup when it appears. Do not ignore or dismiss it.

Open EBB from your Applications folder (macOS) or Start menu (Windows). When a security popup appears:

  • Mac: Click "Open System Settings" when prompted — do NOT navigate there manually. In the Accessibility window that opens, find Electronic BlueBook and enable it.
  • All users: You will be asked for an Activation Code — enter cmc (all lowercase), then click Continue, then Close at the next screen.

When asked for your username, use your native username — everything before the @ sign. CMC students: jdoe26. Non-CMC students (Pomona, etc.): use your own institution's username format.

4

Test with the Demo Exam

After setup, always verify EBB works before exam day:

  1. Select Demo Exam from the exam list
  2. Click Finish Exam
  3. A green screen confirms everything is working correctly

On exam day: Choose the relevant exam from the list — not the Demo Exam. Your exam will appear once your professor activates it.

5

During the Exam

While EBB is opening, keep your hands off the computer and let it finish loading. EBB will lock your system into secure mode once the exam begins. The secure mode remains active until you submit.

Pre-Exam Checklist

  • EBB is installed and tested with the Demo Exam (green screen confirmed)
  • All other applications are closed (browsers, Spotify, Steam, cloud sync)
  • All work is saved — EBB will lock your system
  • System notifications are disabled (Focus / Do Not Disturb mode on)
  • Laptop is plugged in or battery is fully charged
  • Internet connection is stable and tested
  • Your username is confirmed (everything before the @ sign)

Troubleshooting

Reboot your computer and try launching EBB again. Verify your OS meets the minimum requirements (macOS 12+ or Windows 10/11 64-bit). If the issue persists, contact the Help Desk or your professor well before the exam.
You may have entered the wrong username. Use only what appears before the @ sign — not the full email address. CMC students: jdoe26. For non-CMC students (Pomona, etc.): your account must have been manually entered — verify the correct username format for your institution, then contact Mike Malsed to confirm the account was set up correctly.
Re-run the EBB program. The system will detect that you've already started and prompt you to "Recover" — select Recover to resume exactly where you left off. Notify your professor or proctor as well.
This usually means another window was in front of it when EBB launched. Close or minimize all other windows and applications, then quit and relaunch EBB. The popup should appear in front. Do not navigate to System Settings manually — use the "Open System Settings" button in the popup.
Continue your exam — do not exit. Let your professor and Mike Malsed know that your exam will be in the Demo Exam "container." Your exam is safe and your answers are being saved normally.
