Only use approved CMC workspaces. External Slack workspaces (personal free accounts or third-party organization workspaces) are prohibited for institutional communication. All CMC business must stay within CMC Work, CMC Campus, or CMC Network.

Before You Begin
- Your CMC username and password
- Duo MFA set up on your phone (MFA Setup guide)
- Slack desktop app (recommended) or web browser
- The workspaces you're eligible for are provisioned automatically — nothing to request
Go to cmc.enterprise.slack.com
Open the Slack desktop app or go to cmc.enterprise.slack.com in your browser. This is CMC's single Enterprise Grid address — there's no separate URL per workspace.
Authenticate with Your CMC Credentials
You'll be redirected to the CMC Single Sign-On page automatically. Enter your full CMC email address and password, then complete the Duo two-factor authentication when prompted. This ensures your Slack account is securely tied to your institutional identity.
Your Workspaces Appear Automatically
There's nothing to select. After signing in, you'll see whichever CMC workspaces your role qualifies for — CMC Work (staff/faculty only), CMC Campus (students, faculty & staff), and/or CMC Network (beta — students, faculty, staff, alumni & community). Use the workspace switcher in the left sidebar to move between them. If you're an external collaborator without CMC SSO — a vendor, academic partner, alumnus, or community member — you're added by invitation, approved by ITS Slack administration.
Explore Channels and Features
The left sidebar shows your channels, organized by topic and department. Here's a quick overview of channel types:
# Public Channels
Open to all workspace members — join any that interest you (e.g., #general, #announcements, #help-desk)
Private Channels
Visible only to members — used for departments, project teams, and sensitive discussions
Direct Messages
One-on-one conversations with any colleague in your workspace
Group Messages
Multi-person conversations — click the "+" next to Direct Messages to create one
